The research analyzes the librarian’s role as an educational agent who promotes access to information, reading encouragement, and mediation between readers and collections. Reading mediation is seen as essential for the intellectual, social, and critical development of students, positioning the school library as an active learning space. The lack of qualified professionals, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient public policies are highlighted as major challenges. The study concludes that librarians must develop pedagogical, technological, and interdisciplinary skills, and that their ongoing education is crucial to strengthening the role of school libraries in the Brazilian educational system.
Martha Suzana Cabral Nunes Nilza Maria Lima Lino Sandes Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-12-04 2025-12-04 1 22 Cloud security: perception of Library Science students at the University of Costa Rica https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/26383
This article presents the results of research conducted on the knowledge of Cloud Information Security among students from both Educational Libraries and Information Sciences bachelor's programs at the School of Library Science and Information Science of the University of Costa Rica, enrolled in the first semester of 2024. Academic productions on community libraries, civic education, and social inclusion were reviewed in the SciELO and Google Scholar academic databases, as well as in the institutional repository of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). The results indicate that these libraries go beyond merely storing books; they become spaces for access to information, reading mediation, and cultural development. Additionally, they promote active community participation, strengthen social bonds, and stimulate critical thinking. It was observed that these institutions play an essential role in building citizenship by providing access to informational resources, fostering reading habits, and organizing cultural and educational activities. As a result of the research, guidelines were created for the implementation and management of community libraries, addressing aspects such as community engagement, collection development, mediator training, and project sustainability. These guidelines demonstrate that community libraries act as agents of social transformation, promoting inclusion and civic participation. It is concluded that strengthening these institutions should be encouraged through public policies and community actions to ensure their continuity and expand their impact on the construction of a more democratic and informed society.
João Otávio Gomes Silveira Maria Aurea Montenegro Albuquerque Guerra Italo Teixeira Chaves Odete Máyra Mesquita Sales Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-08-22 2025-08-22 1 20 10.18764/2526-6160v24n2e26072 Open educational resources: an analysis of the structure of OER in the repositories of brazilian federal higher education institutions https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/25088
Open Education, aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 4, aims to democratize education by promoting inclusive, high-quality educational resources. Open educational resources (OER), defined by UNESCO as learning materials available in the public domain or under open licenses, follow the principles of the 4Rs: Reuse, Revise, Remix, and Redistribute. In this context, institutional repositories (IRs) are essential for providing open access to materials that support teaching and research. Using an exploratory methodology of descriptive nature and a qualitative-quantitative approach, Brazilian institutions were mapped through the e-MEC Register, and 10 IRs containing "learning objects" were selected from the OpenDOAR Directory. The available resources in each IR were analyzed to identify their structure, means of distribution, and contacts with environment administrators. The analysis revealed that the concept of OER is not clearly understood by institutions, highlighting the need to consult IR managers directly to understand their perceptions. A questionnaire was developed to understand managers’ perspectives on the structure, definition, functionalities, and importance of making OER available. It was found that many materials do not meet OER criteria due to inadequate formats and a lack of institutional support and that, although familiar with OER, managers noted a lack of guidelines to ensure the inclusion and maintenance of these resources. The conclusion is that, in addition to integrating OER into repositories, it is necessary to implement policies that ensure their sustainability, thereby strengthening the democratization of knowledge.
Ana Maria Ferreira de Carvalho Alyce Barboza Soares Lucas Guimarães de Souza Magalhães Nysia Oliveira de Sá Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-08-21 2025-08-21 1 24 10.18764/2526-6160v24n2e25088 Inclusion, knowledge and challenges: information behavior of students – people with disabilities – of Federal University of Paraíba https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/26402
The central theme of the research being reported is information behavior, aligned with the context of the inclusion of people with disabilities in the university context, which calls for studies on their experiences in the informational context that favor their full participation in academic life. The research therefore aims to analyze the information behavior of students - People with disabilities - of UFPB's undergraduate
courses, and the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on this behavior. Methodologically, the research is characterized as bibliographic, descriptive, and exploratory, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. As a data collection instrument, a questionnaire was applied, and made available to the research subjects via a multiplatform instant messaging and voice call application, WhatsApp. It adopts Content Analysis to systematize the thematic categories regarding the profile, need, search, and use of information and, finally, implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on information behavior. The results show that he behavior of searching and using
information involves access to the Internet, massive use of social networks and communication, and information search applications, with a greater incidence in digital libraries. It concludes that the information behavior of students – people with disabilities – is anchored in traditional information channels such as books, scientific articles, television news, and others, but, above all, in contemporary channels, marked by the possibilities of digital information and communication technologies, such as social networks on the Internet and podcasts.
Gislayne Perez Theodoro Luciana Ferreira da Costa Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-08-22 2025-08-22 1 27 10.18764/2526-6160v24n2e26402 Records management in the context of the National Congresses of Archival Science (CNA) https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/26035
Records management is fundamental to Archival Science, especially given the growing importance of information for transparency, accessibility, and historical preservation. Bibliotherapy uses reading books and other texts as a form of psychological and emotional treatment, providing individuals with a way to cope with problems, develop self-understanding, and find comfort. From a corpus of 137 studies retrieved from Brapci, the temporal analysis of the publications revealed three distinct phases: a sporadic production between 1975 and 2004, a gradual increase from 2005 to 2016, and a significant growth between 2017 and 2023, with 2023 standing out as the year with the highest number of articles published. The most frequent keywords in the studies include terms related to the therapeutic effect of bibliotherapy, such as "therapeutic reading", "therapeutic function", and "catharsis", as well as "bibliotherapy research" and disciplines such as "library science" and "information science". The research identifies the "school library" and "university extension" as the main application spaces, with children's and young adult literature being widely used. The practice also shows adaptability, reaching diverse audiences, including the elderly. This study fills a temporal gap in the literature on bibliotherapy in Brazil, highlighting its development as a relevant subfield in Information Science and Library Science in recent years.
Monique Izoton Lucas George Wendt Jean Michel Valandro Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-09-09 2025-09-09 1 17 10.18764/2526-6160v24n2e25439 Communication between a deaf student and a hearing teacher in a regular classroom: reflections about the challenges of inclusive education in a public school in the state of Maranhão – Brazil https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/25215
Considering that inclusive education is an urgent matter in educational policies worldwide, this study is about communication between a deaf student and a hearing teacher in a regular classroom. Weaving reflections on the challenges of inclusive education in a municipal school in the state of Maranhão (Brazil), with regard to teacher training, as well as teaching methodologies. Aiming to discuss inclusion from communication between a hearing teacher and a deaf student during Portuguese language classes, taught in a regular classroom in a regular school. For this purpose, it was necessary: a) research the history of deaf students education; b) investigate, based on observation and application of a questionnaire, the communicative resources used by a deaf student and a hearing teacher in a regular classroom; c) highlight the impact of communication between a deaf student and a hearing teacher in school performance, emphasizing the importance of teacher training for the teaching-learning of a deaf student. It was carried out a basic field research, with a qualitative approach, under the theoretical framework of Skliar (2013), Quadros (2019), Campos (2021) and Damacena (2021). It was used a questionnaire applied to the teacher of a regular classroom. It was found that communication between a deaf student and a hearing teacher in a regular classroom occurs with difficulties. It is possible to highlight the lack of specific training of a hearing teacher and the absence of LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language) interpreter. It is therefore concluded that despite the current official documents, the education of the deaf students still faces pertinent challenges, with regard to a teaching that contributes to the inclusion of deaf students.
Susana de Sousa Araújo Maria Ciciane Sousa da Silva Sara Oliveira Paz Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-09-19 2025-09-19 1 20 10.18764/2526-6160v24n2e25215 The practice of bibliotherapy in the process of coping with grief https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/26930
Grief can be considered a feeling of deep sorrow and sadness experienced after the loss of someone significant. In some cases, it becomes a painful process, marked by difficulty in acceptance and the presence of distress and anguish. In these circumstances, having a support network is essential, and in some cases, seeking the assistance of a mental health professional. In this context, reading is presented as a welcoming resource, capable of helping to reframe feelings. Bibliotherapy thus emerges as a practice that supports coping with grief. The objective of this study was to survey texts with therapeutic potential recommended by Brazilian authors who have published on bibliotherapy in the field of information science. This is a qualitative, basic
research study with an exploratory objective. As methodological procedures, a questionnaire was used to collect data and review the literature based on texts by authors identified in the Information Science Database. The results revealed that, although authors in the field do not directly address the topic of grief in their publications, they do provide relevant references to works that they consider to have therapeutic potential. These references to texts can contribute to the practice of bibliotherapy aimed at the bereaved, offering reading paths that function as emotional
support in the process of coping with loss. Thus, the study highlights gaps to be explored, but also points to possibilities for using reading as a resource for care in the field of Information Science.
Reinan Rios da Silva Niliane Cunha de Aguiar Copyright (c) 2025 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2025-10-02 2025-10-02 1 16 10.18764/2526-6160v24n2e26930 Public library in the City Park: promoting sustainability and environmental education https://cajapio.ufma.br/index.php/bibliomar/article/view/25276
Public libraries play a fundamental role in society by providing access to knowledge, education, and culture.
