Plato and Nietzsche: the dilemmas of writing in two moments

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the problematic of writing as it arises as a philosophical issue both due to the cultural transmission of philosophy linked to written text and, consequently, due to the presentation of philosophy in literary forms and, therefore, the complex and sometimes tense relationship between philosophy and writing and literature. In this sense, the work divides this problematic of writing into two emblematic moments in the history of philosophy: the so-called Platonic critique of writing, with all the ambiguity that it entails in Plato's thought, and Nietzsche's critique of culture in its articulation with his later critique of Western metaphysics and with his reading of the ancient Greeks and the figure of Socrates.
