Tradução dos Fragmentos Políticos: do Estado de Natureza de Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Abstract

The fragments of Rousseau's work have already received very different treatments. The editorial endeavors that have been cataloguing and organizing these texts have done so from different approaches, since this is not an easily organized material, nor does it allow them to be arranged through a logical or systematic division. We present, here, a contribution with the translation of Rousseau's text On the State of Nature, gathered and arranged among the Political Fragments in the edition of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Œuvres complètes da Gallimard-Pléiade – the edition on which we base our translation. In our presentation, we will highlight brief mentions of the editorial organization of other publications in which the same texts had appeared previously, under different models of compilation, duly justified by each of the editors, such as Streckeisen-Moultou (Correspondace inédites) and Charles Vaughan (The political writings), and also later, as is the case of Eigeldinger (Œuvres complètes da Slatkine). By focusing on a text that is not so cited or debated, we think we can raise a diffusion of ideas about the research and interpretation of Rousseau's work as a whole.
