Abstract
Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of reported cases of HIV/AIDS in the elderly population of Juazeiro (BA), from 2019 to 2023. Furthermore, this study compared data obtained at the municipal level with data from the state of Bahia. Methods: The present study is a descriptive, quantitative and retrospective research, based on the analysis of secondary data about reported cases of HIV/AIDS in the elderly population (≥ 60 years) in the state of Bahia and in the municipality of Juazeiro (BA). The data were collected in the Notifiable Diseases Information System, of the Ministry of Health. The variables studied were age group, sex, race/color and patient evolution. Results: In the period from 2019 to 2023, 2,084 and 38 cases of HIV/AIDS were reported in the state of Bahia and the municipality of Juazeiro (BA), respectively. There was a predominance of reported cases of HIV/AIDS among elderly people aged 60 to 69 years (82.68% and 81.6% for Bahia and Juazeiro, respectively), males (61.1% and 55.26% for Bahia and Juazeiro, respectively) and self-declared browns (49.71% and 47.37% for Bahia and Juazeiro, respectively) in both study areas. Furthermore, 13.43% and 15.79% of reported cases of HIV/AIDS resulted in death from AIDS in the state of Bahia and the municipality of Juazeiro (BA), respectively. Conclusion: The state and municipality of Bahia presented a similar epidemiological profile for cases of HIV/AIDS among the elderly: individuals aged 60 to 69 years, male and self-declared mixed race.
