The management of community-based tourism (CBT) meets the demands and needs of the receiving community. Cumbe is a traditional quilombola community in the state of Ceará, Brazil. One of the main needs of this community is the defense of lands that were appropriated by large enterprises. Therefore, community-based tourism aims to strengthen territorial resistance movements through the valorization of Cumbe’s material and immaterial
heritage and the visibility of the conflict. In this regard, tourism in Cumbe highlights the need to maintain the community’s own territory and to continue the traditional way of life. It also attracts people and groups that help the resistance movement through protests, mobilizations on social networks, scientific works and audiovisual projects. By strengthening resistance movements, the CBT represents more than an alternative form of tourism and becomes a political instrument.
