PRODUCTION OF O/W NANOEMULSIONS CONTAINING ADDITIVES USED IN THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY: composition and properties
Abstract
In this work, we studied different nanoemulsions formulation with orange oil and water containing additives used in petroleum industry to inhibit inorganic scale (additive B) and to stabilize asphaltenes (additive C). As surfactant, we used a mixture of surfactants (HLB=11) based on ethoxylated lauryl ether (Ultrol L line) with different ethylene oxide content (EO). Additive B and additive C were prepared in 0.2%v and 0.5%v of concentration, respectively. We studied 9 systems varying surfactant concentrations (9, 12 and 15% v) containing additive B and total oily phase (orange oil and additive C) in 10, 15 and 20%v. The nanoemulsions were prepared by high energy method, using a ultrasonic processor. The nanoemulsions’ properties, size distribution and stability, were observed in particle analyser Zetasizer Nano ZS. The majority of systems of prepared nanoemulsions could formulate the two additives with stability. Therefore, in general, the viability of nanomeulsion production containing chemical additives used in petroleum industry (additive B and additive C) was proven in this work, being an optimum formulation for application of a nanoemulsion with small droplet sizes and good stability profile. This formulation was the one that presented 12% v / v of surfactants and 15% v / v of oil phase, that is, the average levels studied in this work.
