This essay aims to scrutinize through critical analysis the sections which are part of the research-book Maria Firmina: fragmentos de uma vida, by the poet Nascimento Morais Filho, in order to show this researcher’s journey towards the discovery of the maranhense author Maria Firmina dos Reis’ life and works, who is the first female Brazilian novelist. We also take back the poet’s small biography to contextualize the discovery’s circumstances and to understand its developments until it reaches the book’s publishing per se.
