Abstract

This critical review analyzes Todo mundo tem mãe, Catarina, a novel by Carla Guerson, highlighting how maternal absence structures the narrative and shapes the development of the 14-year-old protagonist. Raised by her grandmother, Catarina feels the void left by her absent mother and projects her questions about belonging and identity onto the women around her. Guerson redefines this absence, transforming it not only into a gap but also into a driving force for self-discovery and the construction of female identity.
