Abstract

Work as a timeless phenomenon. Work and creativity. Labor under attack by capital. The new world of work and the forms of resistance of male and female workers. It highlights the changes faced by the world of work in face of the forms of flexibilization and precariousness introduced by the globalization model in course in the world. The statistics that show the
growth of unemployment in Brazil in the last decade are presented. The work modalities introduced by the labor legislation that create the worker without rights are analyzed, widening the precariousness of work and the social lack of workers’ protection. Reflections are developed on changes that brought to the domination of capital over labor not only the
technological modernization characteristic of neoliberalism, but also the options that were imposed to the working class in the context of these changes. It intends to present a different look at the existing empirical relationship between schooling
and work, having as object the working hours, as they express in a unique way the social manifestation of work. In face of so many transformations, the level of education got rid of the old security narrative and became impregnated with flexible work. Before the increase in the participation of the population with higher education in the labor market, one observes that, in a scenary of reduction in working hours, this level of education begins to move timidly towards long hours, although it is concentrated on full-time hours. Another phenomenon observed was the inverse behavior present in the relationship between the economic downturn and the concentration of the population in full-time hours.
