Mental health in contemporary times is a prominent topic, with broad repercussions in academic and media discussions, showing its importance and relevance, as well as the impact on the lives of all subjects. The justification is found once the emotional context of these workers and their routines are analyzed, which require a certain preparation and competence to manage their emotions and feelings allied to the day-to-day of emergencies and constant tensions. The article sought to answer the question of what mechanisms do health professionals use as a way of coping with adverse day-to-day conditions to maintain their mental health? The methodology of the present work aimed to understand this theme of resilience in health through the analysis of materials published in virtual libraries in the health area, using as descriptors: resilience, health professional, stress, hospital environment. Through the discussions found, it was possible to show that stress in the work environment, along with the tensions of the urgency and emergency routine can trigger emotional and psychological problems, as well as psychosomatic diseases. It is concluded, therefore, that resilience is a skill, as well as a human resource for the good development and maintenance of the mental health of the health professional.
