Nova direita populista e proteção social: uma interpretação sobre o caso brasileiro

O governo Bolsonaro produziu impactos bastante negativos no sistema de proteção social. Apoiado na austeridade fiscal, o líder da nova direita executou um amplo programa de desmonte de políticas sociais que, a despeito de resistências, comprometeu particularmente os benefícios contributivos. Destaca-se que, diferentemente da experiência dos países europeus, a nova direita populista no Brasil teve uma atuação mais neoliberal do que estatista em relação às políticas de bem-estar, chamando a atenção para variações regionais desse fenômeno, especialmente no contexto latino-americano. Partindo de uma análise da economia política do Estado de Bem-estar e de suas consequências para a competição eleitoral, este artigo busca explicar essas variações ao analisar as diferentes estratégias e coalizões sociais que sustentaram o desmonte de políticas promovido pela nova direita no Brasil.
