Résumé

Le gouvernement Bolsonaro a eu des répercussions très négatives sur le système de protection sociale. Soutenu par l'austérité budgétaire, le chef de la nouvelle droite a mené un vaste programme de démantèlement des politiques sociales qui, malgré la résistance, compromettaient particulièrement les prestations contributives. Il est à noter que, contrairement à l'expérience des pays européens, la nouvelle droite populiste du Brésil a adopté une approche plus néolibérale qu'étatiste en matière de politiques sociales, attirant l'attention sur les variations régionales de ce phénomène, notamment dans le contexte latino-américain. À partir d'une analyse de l'économie politique de l'État-providence et de ses conséquences sur la compétition électorale, cet article cherche à expliquer ces variations en analysant les différentes stratégies et coalitions sociales qui ont soutenu le démantèlement des politiques promues par la nouvelle droite au Brésil.
