Abstract

Among the services necessary for a dignified life condition, housing is considered the most basic, according to the United
Nations (UN). Based on this observation, the present article aims to present and analyze the housing conditions of families in situations of monetary poverty in one of the main mining municipalities in Brazil: Canaã dos Carajás, which is in the State of Pará. Through a bibliographic review and analysis of data from the “Cadastro Único” (Single Registration), this work seeks to present an overview of the housing conditions of the poorest population in this mineral municipality of the Brazilian Amazon. The main results indicate that families enrolled in the Registration who live in Canaã dos Carajás have difficulties in accessing services such as water supply and direct garbage collection, especially in the Rural Zone and among less educated groups. However, there is evidence that housing policies at the federal, state, and municipal levels developed in the municipality in recent years have contributed to reducing problems in housing conditions in the population enrolled in the Registration, without, however, changing the structural causes of this reality.
