Abstract

The article aims to present some aspects of the pandemic period that highlight the destructive character of the contemporary capitalism, which puts the life and the very existence of humanity at risk, emphasizing that contemporary capitalism is related: to the emergence of the new coronavirus and possibility of new pandemics as a result of devastation of nature; to the deepening of social inequalities; to the commodification of life and health services. It was developed from bibliographic research on the subject and consultation of studies already developed by the author’s research group. The conclusion brings reflections, based on Gramsci’s thought, on the necessary construction of the hegemony of the subaltern classes, with an anti-capitalist horizon of social struggles for the preservation of humanity.
