Abstract

This article reflects about the potential of progressive popular movements to contribute to confronting the advance of the far right in Brazil today. Taking as a historical landmark the period of the contemporary crisis of capital in neoliberalism, the text addresses the 2000s to situate the strengthening of the far right at the international level, particularly in Europe, and points out the main characteristics of this phenomenon in Brazil. Next, the performance of popular movements of a progressive character is analyzed from the perspective of social struggle in this context. In this process, was identified the role that these popular movements have performed in the organization of different segments of the dominated; in their performance as subjects of public policies with the State and in the ideological dispute they carry out within society by demonstrating the importance of the social struggle for the conquest of rights.
