Abstract

This article aims to analyze the interpretative frameworks produced by government representatives about the protest of January 8, 2023. Based on the statements on Twitter by President Lula, Minister of Justice and Public Security Flávio Dino and Federal Deputy André Janones between January 8 and April 30, 2023, we seek to understand how they frame the protesters, their tactics and claims (diagnosis) and what solutions they propose for the identified social problem (prognosis). The results indicate that the analyzed actors tend to converge to a narrative composed of frames that articulate and feed each other. In the diagnostic dimension, we identified two central frameworks: “crime and disorder” and “coup d'état”. In the prognostic dimension, we verified two main framings: “punitivist” and “defense of democracy”.
