Abstract

The cycle of mega events is addressed from the incorporation of semantic and operational elements of the military strategy of Irregular War, through the intervention of the Brazilian Armed Forces in Rio de Janeiro and for the implementation of the Peacekeeping Police Units (upp ). Based on the use of primary sources from the Department of Defense (dod) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, the Irregular War is characterized. In a second moment and based on articles by soldiers who participated in Urban Warfare Operations that appeared in the United States Army magazine Military Review, the hypothesis about the use of war strategies in urban contexts as an alternative available to political elites is corroborated. and economic with objectives of social control.
