Abstract

The objective of the present work is to present, based on the work of the decolonial author Walter Mignolo, the social struggle against the different forms of domination and exploitation as a defining element of modernity and that has always been present in the course of modern Latin American history. For that, first, it is presented the way in which this tradition understands modernity and its complex relationship with Latin America. Second, the fight against coloniality and human rights is analyzed, as well as decoloniality as a theoretical-social category that expresses resistance against modern /colonial domination. It is possible to conclude that modernity is a complex concept, containing violence and a social struggle against violence.
