Abstract

This article examines the representation of sound media and the use of parody in the novel A décima segunda noite by Luis Fernando Verissimo, which draws on the events and characters from William Shakespeare’s comedic play Twelfth Night. The analysis focuses on how the Brazilian narrative integrates and reinterprets references to various forms of sound media, such as music, voice recorders, and orality, adding an extra layer of meaning. The study finds that through these intermedial references, Verissimo creates a narrative centered on parodic repetition, reconfiguring elements of the Shakespearean play and emphasizing the carnivalesque nature of his own work. The conclusion suggests that the intermediality in the novel not only enriches the narrative but also opens up new interpretative possibilities, allowing for reflections and critiques of a metamedial nature.
