The present study evaluates the territorial planning processes underway in the Legal Amazon after the 1970s, focusing on the area covered by the Cuiabá-Santarém highway (BR-163), in the states of Mato Grosso and Pará, considering the modernizing effects on production circuits and socioeconomic impacts. Over the last five decades, flows and exchanges between these two states have been intensifying through road integration and power projects engendered by the State and private capital from large Agribusiness conglomerates. Such agents control, in a hegemonic manner, the countryside, the cities, and the networks, shaping the frontier of the territories of Mato Grosso and Pará in order to facilitate the expanded reproduction of capital.
