This article briefl y analyzes three current contexts in which teacher education for public schools takes place in Brazil: global capitalism, neoliberalism, and what Paulo Freire called “reactionary post-modernity” in order to understand the accelerated rhythms of privatization in education in Brazil, mainly, in both higher education and teacher education, as well as the teaching policies approved in recent years in this country – focusing upon “BCN-Formação”. Consequently, teacher education for public schools in Brazil takes places today, mainly, in private for-profi t non-university higher education institutions, in teacher education programs developed in the evening and, progressively, online, which affects the quality of teacher education for those who will teach at these schools.
