ELECTRODIAGNOSIS AS AN ASSESSMENT TOOL IN ACUPUNCTURE: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW WITHOUT META-ANALYSIS

INTRODUCTION: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) describes human physiology and psychology in terms of Qi (or "chi"), the vital energy that flows through energy channels called meridians. Methods to assess Qi are needed for more appropriate approaches and strategies. OBJECTIVE: To conduct a systematic review without meta-analysis on the use of electrodiagnosis as a tool in acupuncture. METHODS: This study is a systematic review of the literature without meta-analysis. To search for articles, independent search measures were adopted by two independent reviewers, consulting the following databases: US National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) and Cochrane Library, Virtual Health System Library (VHL). RESULTS: A total of 62 studies were found in the search, including PubMed (8), Scielo (6), PEDro (6) and Cochrane Library (24), VHL (18). After critical reading of the titles and abstracts, 24 duplicate articles were excluded, 11 articles did not meet the inclusion criteria, 6 articles did not have full access, 7 articles were clinical trial protocols, 1 article was incomplete after full reading, and 12 articles were included in this review. CONCLUSION: Ryodoraku is an energetic electrodiagnostic resource that can assist researchers and professionals who use acupuncture in their practice, supporting the construction, understanding and analysis of the variation of ryodoraku measurements, thus providing the development of specific strategies and treatments that are more adapted according to the individual's needs.
