This paper aims to report the experience of two mothers of children under five years old with malnutrition admitted to the Massinga District Hospital in Mozambique (Africa), to problematize the issues of the reality in which they find themselves. This is an observational, descriptive case reports with qualitative design. Data were collected in 2021 by the clinical nutritionist responsible for the research through the methodology of therapeutic itinerary, from semi-structured interviews according to a guide script of open questions with two mothers, in which one mother has performed breastfeeding and the other has not. The selection was random according to the inclusion criteria of the study, such as being the mother of a child under five years old hospitalized for malnutrition. The data were transcribed and coded preserving the identity of the interviewees for later organization into a timeline and central ideas. From the therapeutic itinerary, it was possible to know the experiences of Mozambican mothers and their difficulties with maternal and child health. Such as the responsibility for the child's feeding and the lack of guidance from the health service regarding breastfeeding and the introduction of food to the child. The results suggest the existence of a lack of a protection network supported by adequate public policies and the importance of traditional knowledge, highlighting the qualitative research for the knowledge of realities.
