A PROFISSÃO DE RELAÇÕES PÚBLICAS NO CINEMA: estudo sobre a narrativa Wag the dog (1997)

Abstract

RESUMO: Pretende-se descortinar a representação social do profissional de Relações Públicas no cinema, adotando como objeto de estudo a narrativa Wag the dog (1997) através de análise de conteúdo e de análise fílmica. Discute-se a imagem e a identidade profissional do RP na sociedade, valendo-se do conceito e dos processos de representação social cunhados por Serge Moscovici. Os resultados mostram uma série de perspectivas que reiteram estereótipos sociais acerca da atividade, frequentemente associando a profissão à manipulação da opinião pública e à utilização de fatos inventados para maquiar a realidade, retratando tais aspectos como características intrínsecas ao profissional.

ABSTRACT: It is intended to uncover the social representation of the Public Relations professional in cinema, adopting as a study object the Wag the dog narrative (1997) through content analysis and filmic analysis. It is discussed the professional image and social identity of PR in society, drawing on the concept and the processes of social representation coined by Serge Moscovici. The results show a number of perspectives that confirm stereotypes about the activity, often associating the profession to the manipulation of public opinion and the use of invented facts to make up the reality, portraying such aspects as intrinsic characteristics of the professional.
