This article aims to analyze how young people consume news in the so-called "news deserts", that is, cities where there is no production of local journalism. It is also of interest to this study to observe the role of the school in the media literacy of young people and how they develop a critical view of the topics that circulate in their social networks and instant messaging applications. Therefore, a questionnaire was applied to 79 young people aged 15 to 24 years old from the cities of Rondon do Pará, Bagre, Novo Repartimento and Capanema, in the state of Pará. Theoretical reflections are related to young people's relationships with the media, consumption of local information and media literacy.
