Environmental education in primary education

With the worsening of environmental problems in society, resulting from human and technological development, through the disorderly and irresponsible use of natural resources, environmental education in basic education has become
essential. Since environmental education is a permanent component of national education, it must be present at all levels and modalities of the educational process. Given the above, the guiding question of this research is presented: has
environmental education been addressed in scientific productions related to Basic Education? To this end, the study aimed to investigate, based on the State of the Art, the approach to environmental education in Basic Education, as presented in the Capes Periodicals Portal's productions over the last five years (20202024). Based on the analysis of the texts, the results suggest a relationship between Environmental Education/Basic Education, as environmental education is addressed in a multidisciplinary manner. However, despite being a widely discussed topic, few concrete actions are carried out. Therefore, there is a clear need to encourage practical environmental education actions aimed at developing students' sensitivity to the importance of environmental conservation and at
calling the attention of public authorities and the school community to the promotion of sustainability.
