This study examines the linguistic challenges faced by English Language teachers in the United States, focusing on the coexistence of standard English and its vernacular varieties. Grounded in the Variationist Sociolinguistics of William Labov (1972) and supported by the works of Rowe and Lavine (2023), this research analyzes semantic, phonological, morphological, and syntactic variations, with special emphasis on African American Vernacular English (AAVE). The study highlights the impact of these variations on language education and the need for teacher education programs to incorporate sociolinguistic awareness. Findings suggest that linguistic diversity in classrooms demands pedagogical strategies that respect and integrate non-standard varieties while ensuring proficiency in
standard English. The paper argues that fostering linguistic consciousness of English Language can help
people who use this language to reduce the chances of language-based discrimination and enhance learning outcomes. By acknowledging the legitimacy of linguistic variations, this study contributes to a
broader discussion on language equity in educational contexts.
